We are looking forward to next week’s Cheltenham Festival and have enjoyed helping our customers kit themselves out over the last few years. Cheltenham can be an unpredictable meeting when it comes to the weather. You never know whether it will be freezing cold and bucketing it down or a perfect Spring Day. Layering up and accessorising is our best tip. One of the beauties of the Cheltenham is its flexible dress code and scope for the imagination. Of course, the fact that it always straddles St Patrick’s Day and is famed for its Irish contingent, means that we always like to add a good dollop of green into our outifts.
Tattersal check has its origins in horse blankets and has long been associated with country pursuits. Our brushed cotton or cotton/cashmere blend versions of this design are always a good choice and provide some cosy against the cold. They set the tone well and pair up excellently with a tweed sports jacket or layered under a sweater and atop a pair of cords.
We also love the contrast achieved by throwing some madder into the mix, and our pocket squares and tassled scarves look great set against a tweed, allowing the wearer to draw some rich colour and texture into their look. Talking of texture, our grenadine ties and our cashmeres are perfect. They can bring a necessary touch of formality whilst still evoking an at ease casualness for a comfortable, smart casual look.
One last thing, don’t forget the gloves. It can be chilly out there on the course and if you are going to sup the obligatory pint or three Guinness (or hold some binoculars) whilst out on the lee, you will be grateful for warm hands.
